THE 75 YEAR ANNIVERSARY KIT VfL WOLFSBURG
THE CHALLENGE
To mark its 75th anniversary, VfL Wolfsburg is launching a special jersey. The goal was clear from the start, convert a standard teamwear jersey into a high-quality anniversary jersey. The green jersey, based on the 2008/2009 championship jersey of “the wolves”, is to be reproduced as a retro edition. 75 years of VfL Wolfsburg means premium product. A clear image is worth gold
The project is perfectly prepared. Why? VfL Wolfsburg knows exactly what the jersey should look like. The drafts for the logos have already been designed and the size specifications for the logos are confirmed. Sounds like a relaxed project to us, not really!! Our task: To transform the designs into high-quality logos that turn a blank shirt into a high-spec desirable collector's item.
THE SOLUTION
Despite the large selection of possible product qualities at our disposal for teamwear embellishment, the decision is made quickly. The club logo, inspired by the historic VfL Wolfsburg club logo, shows the silhouette of a wolf, the club name "VfL Wolfsburg" and the lettering "75 years". Due to the fine details in the coat of arms, we opted for our 3D SILICONE quality and sampled the logo for the club which was ultimately approved by the club as the design and product of choice.
Perfect for fine details
The advantage: The 3D effect and the fine details of the silicone transfer, in combination with the free-standing implementation in white and cool grey, go perfectly with the simple design of the jersey. In addition, the date of foundation was to be shown in gold on the neck. Again, the obvious choice was 3D SILICONE in order to provide a consistent approach and avoid an unnecessary mix of materials. This unfortunately wasn’t the case with the front of the jersey. The VW sponsor logo on the chest and a merchandise label were also required on the front of the jersey, both of which needed to be in a light, FLAT PU and in white.
Flat logos with depth
ECOBLOCK BLACK is ideal solution for applications of this nature. The integrated Active Carbon Blocker reliably prevents any possible migration (in this blog post we go into more detail on the issue). Despite the requirement to display the merchandise label discreetly in white, we wanted to give the logo that certain something. The solution: A tone-on-tone variant in ECOBLOCK BLACK | MATT GLOSS. The combination of matt and glossy areas, creates a special contrast and harmonizes perfectly with the jersey design. The same technology is also used for the back numbers. The reason: The implementation of the Numbers with the matt & gloss finish introduces excellent anti-counterfeit properties and the design, perfectly rounds off the high-quality look of the jersey.
THE RESULT
A full bespoke implementation, from the excellent preparation on the part of the club, the first drafts of our designs, through to the production of the transfers, to our in-house finishing. We had only one clear goal: The punctual delivery of the jerseys by the specified deadline, September 12, 2020. Exactly 75 years after the club was founded, VfL Wolfsburg played in the DFB Cup reaching the next round of the cup with a comfortable win. All in a beautiful tailor-made anniversary jersey. A precious gift for all VfL fans!
